Air Ride Suspension

Air Ride Suspension is an innovative type of automotive suspension featuring variable air pressure that is used to help car owners handle their cars in different conditions. These airbags also help in absorbing shock and vibration, especially when driving at high speeds. Basically, air suspension refers to the use of bellows to provide an adjustable air gap between the upper and lower parts of a car. This is done by allowing the air bags to inflate or deflate on their own, depending on the road conditions. The purpose of airbags is to provide the driver with additional support during unexpected bumps or while driving over rough terrain.

Air ride suspension system uses two different types of air springs or valves in its system. One is the compression air ride spring, which compresses the air inside a bellow to ensure sufficient fluid pressure to hold the vehicle body in place during abrupt shifts in acceleration or deceleration. The other is the rebound air spring, which allows the air created by the compression spring to be recovered and compressed back into a bellow when the car is pushed forward.

In order to understand air ride suspension, it is important to understand its mechanism. When a vehicle is fitted with air ride suspension, its suspension system features one or more air chambers in its bellows. Usually, these chambers are situated in between the wheels and between the axle and the suspension track. The valves are mounted on the mellow side of the system to serve as storage tanks for the air. It is because of this that air ride suspension uses two different types of air springs.

For the smooth ride, the air-ride suspension system features single spring units, which are installed just in front of the tires. This provides smooth rides, even if the tires are operated at very high speeds. However, the most popular and efficient type of air suspension for trucks is the tandem unit, which features two independent springs located in the rear and front of the vehicle respectively. This is the reason why many sports automakers have chosen to use this particular suspension system.

Air Ride Suspension is also used in passenger vehicles. The suspension system is especially useful in passenger vehicles such as SUVs, coupes, sedans, and trucks. The reason behind its popularity among passenger vehicles is that it enhances the comfort of the passengers since the suspension systems do not need extra reinforcements in the vehicle. Instead, all these extra reinforcements are located in the passenger vehicles' shock absorbers.

Air ride suspension systems offer excellent ride quality. In fact, these are ideal for smooth rides at all times. Their main strength lies in the springs and shock absorbers. Thus, they make the car go round easily and smoothly even when the engine is running at the top speed. Therefore, air ride suspension assures the best possible maintenance cost and the most comfortable ride quality.
